Before I begin the story of how people struggle with noisy neighbors in Australia, I would like to say a few words about housing. About the houses in which the people actually live here.
Australia in this regard differs little from other Western countries, here most people live in their own homes. But a certain part of the population lives in apartments (units), and the apartment houses usually have only 2-3 floors, housing about 9 apartments. In my opinion, in most cases, the apartments live in:
& # 8212; The younger generation, who can not yet afford a house.
& # 8212; the lower strata of the population, who for some reason again can not afford to rent / buy a house.
In all other cases, people usually live in houses, although, of course, this is more expensive for money.
We return to the topic of neighbors. In Australia it is quite normal to tread on your neighbors if they violate the rule of law. For example, if your neighbor has a party after 10 pm on a weekday, then you can safely call the police and complain about it. Usually, policemen come to such challenges without problems and the party ends immediately. The exact hours when you can not disturb the peace of the neighbors depend on the state, we in Queensland have it after 10 hours on weekdays and after 12 am on Friday and Saturday.
I was not lucky in terms of neighbors & # 8212; my neighbor (I already wrote about her somehow), a woman of about 45 years of age, recently got herself a boyfriend. And steadily several times a month they spend nights of love and fun. The matter is aggravated by the fact that they loudly chatter, slam the door and have sex until five or six in the morning. And all this happens in the room next to my bedroom.
Since human requests & # 171; please be quiet & # 187; and give me a nap, I have an exam tomorrow morning. ” did not have the proper effect, I had to call the police. Curious is the fact that every time you call the police you will be asked if there is any danger or threat to life. And then they will only accept your complaint. So, the police & # 8230; She did not come. For some reason, a complaint about “just noisy neighbors who do not allow to sleep” not received due attention. The situation was repeated literally in a week, when again the neighbor again did not let me sleep and I had to call the police again. And again no one came.
I am sure that if I told the police that neighbors are hitting each other or that about 10 people are in their room, they would still come. But I was not ready to lie. Although for the third time, most likely, it is necessary to step over the line and embellish your complaint & # 8230;
P.S. And although living in a separate house does not solve the problem of noisy neighbors completely, but at least:
& # 8212; neighbors are not so strongly audible.
& # 8212; complaining about a person living in a nearby house is somehow psychologically easier than on a neighbor on the landing.
So it is worth to strive for living in a separate house.
Parks in the cities of Australia & # 8212; one of the first things that newcomers notice. Within the city there are many different parks where you can just walk:
One of the most popular seasons to visit Australia is certainly the New Year period. In Russia at this time, the long New Year holidays, here the height of summer & # 8212; It would seem, what conditions can be better for rest?
However, in my opinion, the new year is not the best time to visit Australia. On the example of Brisbane, I have the courage to say that it’s best to go here as a tourist at the end of September & # 8212; beginning of October. Judge for yourself, at this time:
& # 8212; the sea is already warm enough to swim.
& # 8212; the air temperature during the day warms up to approximately summer values (27-28 degrees usually)
& # 8212; The rainfall is much less than in the summer.
& # 8212; the sun is not as harmful as in the summer (although protection from ultraviolet is still needed)
In addition, you can visit such annual events as the Brisbane Festival with mega Fireworks FireFire and the laser show Santos City of Lights, as well as Brisbane Open House. In addition, it is at the beginning of October that the jacaranda blossoms:
Such beauty in January you will not see 🙂
Last Saturday in Brisbane was extremely curious event, in a format very reminiscent of the open house day. A total of 51 single commercial and public buildings were opened for excursions on that day. Among them there were offices of companies, as well as such buildings as: fire station, court, parliament, news studio and others. Everyone could choose those institutions that would like to see “from within”. Everything is absolutely free, but for some buildings, a preliminary reservation was required.
I must admit that everything was well organized. Despite a large number of people, excursions managed to conduct in several streams simultaneously.
I already wrote about the new system of immigration Skillselect, which began to operate from July 1, 2012.
Three months after the introduction of this system, the first reports on its work appeared on the website of the immigration department. And the most important thing is & # 8212; the minimum pass mark that was in effect during these months.
I remind you that you can apply through SkillSelect if you score at least 60 points. But this does not mean that with 60 points, you will certainly get a cherished invitation to emigrate to Australia. If other candidates have higher scores & # 8212; then you will remain without an invitation. Therefore, it is important to look at reports that prompt a real minimum passing score, which operated in certain months.
After the first month of the system, the number of invitations issued was minimal & # 8212; only 100 pieces. Because of this and the passing score was at a very high level & # 8212; 75 points. Now the number of issued invitations is increasing and the score is decreasing. In September, 1000 invitations were sent, the minimum score was 65. In October, 2000 invitations will be issued.
I can say with certain confidence that the minimum score will remain in the region of 60-65, as the number of issued invitations will not decrease (it is likely to grow only in the near future). In any case, if you apply with 60 points, then be prepared to wait long enough before the application is satisfied. A completely different situation, if you have 65 points and higher & # 8212; there is an opportunity to immediately receive an invitation.
Curiously, the number of invitations issued for each profession. Top-3 specialties looks like this (the number of invitations for September is indicated as follows):
1) Software and Applications Programmers, 210 invitations.
2) Accountants, 140 invitations.
3) ICT Business and Systems Analysts, 108 invitations.
As before, it’s easiest to leave for Australia as an IT specialist or an accountant.
Foreword. When a large construction project starts in Russia, people discuss two things first: how much money will be stolen and how many years will lag behind the schedule during construction. At the same time, there is no doubt that ever, but still complete the project does not arise. In Australia the question is in another & # 8212; will they have time to finish the construction before the power in the country changes or not? And then the opposition can come to power and cancel construction.
Now about the NBN itself (National Broadband Network). Here, in Australia, for the provision of Internet in homes, it is most often used such an ancient technology as ADSL. I already wrote about this in a separate article about the Internet in Australia. To somehow change the situation, the government once planned to stretch optics to almost every house in Australia. In other words, to ensure that every resident of the country can have internet at home at a speed of 100 mbps. To be even more accurate, optics promise to hold in 93% of all houses, and the rest of the house to cover via a wireless link or satellite. The idea is excellent, given the current state of affairs with ADSL.
Every month, in the heart of Brisbane, there is the Games Night & # 8212; An event where everyone can play for free at & # 8230; Board games 🙂
The organizer is the city council (city government agency Brisbane City Council), tables with chairs are displayed, they provide a bunch of board games. In addition, other games are being installed nearby, like janga, scrabble and others. It seems such a trifle, but it’s nice to come and just play with your friends in the evening.
Meet, these are road workers who regulate traffic in road works or in other special situations. Here they are often called lollipop men, since the road sign “Stop & # 187; in their hands resembles a candy in shape.
Usually, always, when there is a repair of the road or something else, and thus the traffic on the road becomes one-sided, such a person regulates the traffic with his sign. On one side of the sign is written Stop, and on the other Slow. Quite often there is not even one such worker, but two, and they coordinate the direction of movement on the radio.
On the one hand, it’s certainly great from a security standpoint. Still, it’s much better when someone regulates traffic, and not when drivers have to separate themselves. On the other hand, it looks like something like # 8230; inefficient, or what 🙂
Let’s speak frankly & # 8212; Immigration has not only positive aspects, but also negative ones. In this case, I’m talking not so much about the problems for the visitors themselves, but about the country itself and its current population.
But first a small disclayer. I do not have a permanent residence in Australia (permanent residence), there is no local citizenship; in general, I am in Australia on a student visa. Why am I talking about this now? Unfortunately, there are enough people here who come here and get citizenship, begin to insist that there are too many immigrants here and there is no need to let anyone else here. Their motives, in this case, unfortunately, are clear & # 8212; they moved to Australia and want others to not get the same. In other words, in their subconsciousness & # 171; value & # 187; citizenship is lost when it receives some other visitor. So, I now have no local permanent residence, and will I stay in Australia? too, the issue is open. Therefore, I hope that my point of view on the question of immigration will not have any prejudice.
It would seem, quite a rhetorical question & # 8212; why are laws more respected in Australia than in Russia?
There is no single answer to this question, here and the different mentality of people is involved and a bunch of other factors. And one of the most important factors is the amount of punishment for violations of the law. In Australia, as in most other developed countries, it is quite severe fines where first of all there must be order.
I’ll give a simple example & # 8212; the amount of cash fines for speeding on the roads in Queensland, where I live:
Exceeding up to 13 km / h: $ 146.
From 13 to 20 km / h: $ 220.
From 20 to 30 km / h: $ 366.
From 30 to 40 km / h: $ 513.
Over 40 km / h: $ 1,026 and extra rights for six months.
Of course, with this there are other penalties, including the ball system (with private violations they can just take away the rights), but now it is primarily about the money side of the issue. It seems to me that it is a significant punishment, as well as a high probability of its execution, that allows maintaining order in the society. Here both are, & # 8212; you know that you are waiting for a big fine in case of violation and a bribe you will not get off.
By the way, in Russia, in my opinion, because of the increase in fines on the roads, it has become a bit, but safer.
