Another option is ESL (English as a Second Language) courses, but as far as I know their validity is longer than 3 months, many universities and US schools offer such courses.
I was in the United States on the Work and Travel program this summer and I want to say that the language learns in the country with native speakers a hundred times more efficiently, faster and easier than in Russia, even with a foreign teacher.
I did not have any courses – I studied according to the immersion method on Wednesday .. It was hard at the beginning – then just wonderful!
But if I had attended a language school in those four months, I would have been with Toyfel in my hands! : twisted:

The easiest if less than 22 years – to go on one of the exchange programs. There are state, there is no. The question of accommodation will be resolved, the language will be tightened by the situation, and not even by employment.

I traveled 10 years ago, but the school is large, networked, they are actively working in this direction. I chose California, but not LA, but San Diego. School http://www.aspectworld.com/FILES/SDO_ENG_Factfile.pdf The quality of training is very good, the attitude is benevolent.
You can live in families or in apartments. I recommend the apartments, of course. So more independence, and if you want more communication in English, you can always hang out with “classmates” or in the pool / jacuzzi make friends with neighbors from the same complex. I spent two months there, took the TOEFL course. Minus apartments – to get to the school you need either by bus, or with someone, or rent a car. If you drive, it is better to rent it naturally, there will be more freedom of movement. Near the school there is where to park, so that problems never arose. Walking from school to apartment somewhere was an hour, I sometimes walked under the mood 🙂 And I highly recommend taking a single stay to live without neighbors. I get along pretty well with people, but the unpleasant moments were all the same. And since there is no opportunity to choose a neighbor, it is better to avoid it.
And if you compare with the UK, then in the US I liked more. There somehow it’s easier, the attitude is more benevolent, the weather is more pleasant and generally 🙂 But this is IMHO from personal experience, estessno. For others, everything can be different.
If you have any questions, then I will answer 🙂

If you have a usual tourist visa, then you can study it only a few hours a week. :-P.

Schools simply do not care what kind of visa you have and if you have any. Most such violations go away, if you do not get enough, it will not be funny.

Yes, academic training requires an academic load of at least 18 academic hours per week.
It seems that it’s too late to advise, but in principle you can study for 2 weeks in ANY status by arriving on ANY visa, only you have to pay for tuition.
If a person arrived on a tourist visa and already being in the United States decided to study under academic programs ie. much longer than a couple of weeks, then he needs to change his status. In this he can help his college or school or courses, but a person will have to prove to the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization that initially at the entrance to the country he had no intentions to learn, and intentions changed already when he was in the US.
