Kiev railway station is recognized as one of the most beautiful stations in Moscow. According to V.Shukhov’s project, a landing stage was built. This is a monumental, and at the same time elegant design, consisting of glass and metal and resembling a transparent dome in the air.
The building is built in the style of classicism, which is not typical for buildings beginning late 19 th – early 20 th century, when the fashion was a modernist style.
The first name of the Kiev railway station is Briansk. The station building was opened in 1899, when the first train left Moscow for Bryansk. In order to save money, the building was devoid of any external appeal, newspapers even appeared caricatures.
Only in 1912 were found funds for the construction of a new station building. The authors of the project were architects I.I. Rerberg V.G. Shukhov.
In 1934 the Bryansk railway station was renamed into Kiev, and a year later the reconstruction of the station square began, as a result of which it was expanded and included the embankment of the Moscow River. At the railway station there was an hour-long tower 51 meters high (17-storey house).
In 2001, the station square was reconstructed and turned into a square in Europe, where 48 columns with flags of European countries were installed and the sculpture “The Abduction of Europe”.
